Zhubanov university students implement an ecological project on textile waste recycling
Students of the Ecology program at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of Zhubanov University have developed an eco-project titled "Reusing Textile Waste." As part of the project, students recycled old clothes and textile waste to create an environmentally friendly filler for cat litter.
The project authors were welcomed by Zhubanov University Rector Laura Karabasova, who expressed her support for their initiative. During the meeting, the students shared their ideas on developing and improving the project and turning it into a commercial venture. The university leader emphasized the importance of environmental projects and expressed her willingness to support the students' efforts.
This project was developed within the student scientific club "Ekovert." The club's supervisor, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Gulya Isengaliyeva, highlighted that the project was initiated by the students themselves.
"For making eco-bedding, we used old clothes, fabric scraps, and other textile materials. This process does not require significant costs but brings substantial environmental benefits. In the future, the 'Ekovert' team plans to expand the project, involve more volunteers, and implement new textile waste recycling technologies. Eco-beds made from recycled textile materials have become not just an experimental project but a real solution with both social and environmental significance," said Gulya Isengaliyeva.
Currently, the project is being developed by third-year students of the Ecology program: Maria Zimakova, Alexandra Brykalova, Adina Kubeeva, and Taisiya Sivakova.
In 2024, as part of the project and in honor of the 125th anniversary of Kudaibergen Zhubanov, a scientific article was written under the supervision of Isengaliyeva G.A. Additionally, the project was presented at the Republican Scientific Competition "NIRS", where it won a prize.
The project is expected to expand in the future, engaging more students in the eco-movement.
