Students left without housing in Aktobe were placed in a dormitory
Against the background of the massive influx of Russians in Aktobe, as in other regions of the country, prices for rental housing have increased noticeably. As a result, dozens of students were forced to move out of their rented apartments. Young people who found themselves in a difficult situation were helped at one of the local universities. They were provided with places in a dormitory, reports a Khabar 24 correspondent.
4th year student Malika Shtakonova is from Atyrau. She is a future defectologist. Together with two other girls, I rented a two-room apartment on the outskirts of the regional center. However, a few days ago the landlady contacted them and said that they would now have to pay more for housing. The students were forced to move out.
Malika Shtakonova, student:
— Initially, the amount was 90 thousand, but due to the latest news, the owner of the apartment increased the price to 150 thousand. Of course, I had problems with housing. Then I received a notification that students were being accepted into the dormitory. I wrote an application and was accepted immediately.
Due to a sharp rise in prices for rental housing, 30 students almost ended up on the street. They have already been helped to solve the housing problem. Every year, approximately 1,800 people move into the dormitories of the Zhubanov University, while they can accommodate 400 more students. Therefore, there are still free places for those interested.
Laura Karabasova, rector of ARU named after. K. Zhubanova:
— On Friday, we already observed a large influx of citizens from the neighboring state. We cannot ignore such events. We immediately thought about our students who rent housing, and there was such a sharp jump in prices. What did we offer? I immediately posted an appeal for all of our students wanting to move into our residence halls.
The university also plans to provide free legal assistance to students who have controversial issues with landlords. To do this, they need to call the hotline.
