Zhubanov university hosts forum on digital modernization and library development

On April 21, 2025, K. Zhubanov Aktobe Regional University hosted an important forum titled “Modern Library Development – Adapting to the Digital Era,” dedicated to National Book Day.

The event brought together leading library specialists, scholars, university administrators, representatives of professional associations, and students from across the country who came to share their experiences.

Vice-Rector for Science and Innovation Rakhym Beknazarov opened the forum by highlighting the importance of library adaptation to the digital era. According to him, the forum serves as a platform for modernizing library services and developing educational spaces through cutting-edge technologies and innovative approaches.

During the scientific session, participants discussed a range of current issues. These included the role of libraries in educational and cultural development in the digital age, avenues for cooperation within the Association of University Libraries, strategies for public engagement and information services, and the use of international scientific resources. Special focus was given to transitioning libraries into a modern format, innovative library projects, and methods of attracting readers.

Saulet Tazhigalieva, chief librarian of Zhubanov University’s acquisitions and collection storage office, spoke about the university library’s digital adaptation efforts. Her presentation covered the integration of modern technologies into library operations, improvements in electronic fund management systems, and the development of user-friendly online services. She emphasized the importance of accessible digital educational resources, automated search systems, and electronic reading rooms, noting that these directly enhance the quality of education.

Gulzhan Irzhanova, President of the Public Association “Association of University Libraries of the Republic of Kazakhstan,” addressed the future prospects of university libraries in Kazakhstan and the development of collaborative platforms to unite them. She stressed that modern libraries should not only be repositories of information but also hubs of knowledge, innovation, digital literacy, and scientific support.

Dmitry Sazonov, Business Development Manager for the CIS countries, spoke about connecting libraries to readers through international platforms, QR technologies, virtual bookshelves, and interactive learning tools. He also highlighted the importance of multilingual support, access to rare collections, and user-personalized digital content.

In addition, the forum comprehensively addressed the modernization of library services, implementation of innovative projects, promotion of reading culture, and training of future information literacy specialists.
