First-year students of Heriot-Watt university’s Aktobe campus take their first exams
Today, first-year students at Heriot-Watt University's Aktobe campus sat for their first exams. From March 31 to April 3, 250 students are being tested in mathematics, physics, chemistry, information technology, and English.
Senior lecturer PhD Mukagali Kalymbai highlighted that these exams are conducted to assess the knowledge students have acquired over the past 10 weeks.
"The exams follow Heriot-Watt University’s standards. Students are only allowed to bring a pen, pencil, ID card, a bottle of water, and an engineering calculator (for math and physics). After completing the exam, they attach their name and ID number to a special sticker to ensure grading transparency. The results undergo a two-stage verification process: first by our lecturers, then by Scottish colleagues," he explained.
Students started with the mathematics exam, a 1.5-hour test. Amira Marat, one of the examinees, shared her experience.
"Since this was our first exam, there was some nervousness. But for students who pay attention in lectures, actively participate, and seek additional information, the exam is manageable. I prepared well and found it easy to complete. I wish all students the best of luck!"
Exams at Heriot-Watt University’s Aktobe campus are held twice a year. Students who do not score the required points on the final exam will have an opportunity to retake it in August.
