Zhubanov university’s “Silver university” project successfully completes its season

Zhubanov University has successfully concluded the current season of its socially significant project, “Silver University.” Today, approximately 170 participants received their certificates. Over the course of 2.5 months, they improved their knowledge in Kazakh and English languages, digital literacy, therapeutic exercise, sewing, chess, and other fields.

University Rector Laura Karabasova noted that this year special attention was given to providing high-quality recreational activities for older adults.

“Changes in the modern labor market, artificial intelligence, and the growing flow of information require continuous personal development. In addition to essential skills such as digital literacy and English, this year we also offered new directions for meaningful leisure — like waltz dancing, crafts, and chess. We were pleased to see a strong interest in learning the Kazakh language. We are ready to introduce new subjects based on your suggestions,” said the Rector.

The event highlighted many memorable moments and accomplishments from the project, and participants shared positive feedback on their experiences.

Omirserik Orazalin, a veteran journalist with 45 years of experience, participated in the project for the second time. Last year, he improved his digital skills, and this year he completed courses in therapeutic exercise and psychology.
“As we age, it becomes more important to pay attention to our health. I’ve always been interested in psychology, and these courses were very useful for me,” he shared.

Bakyt Magomedova completed courses in English and chess.
“I have friends who live abroad, and we often talk on the phone. After this course, I can now speak freely in English. The lessons were engaging — there were 16 of us in the group. It's never too late to learn. Our teacher told us that our eyes light up when we study. We embraced new knowledge with enthusiasm and curiosity. This is a very necessary project because people like us — older adults — want to stay active, not just sit at home,” she said.

It is worth noting that the “Silver University” project was launched in 2021 as part of the “Lifelong Learning” concept. It remains one of the university’s most socially impactful and successful initiatives. During the closing ceremony, letters of appreciation were presented to the educators who taught and contributed to the success of the project.
