Creat-grandson of Nurpeis Bayganin restores the dombra made by his great-grandfather for his own son
On the eve of National Dombra Day, third-year student of the “Visual Arts” program at Aktobe Regional University named after K. Zhubanov, Nurbek Alpamissuly Baiganin – the great-grandson of the famous akyn and zhrau Nurpeis Baiganin – began a unique cultural and historical project. He is restoring the dombra that his great-grandfather once made for his son Momun.
Only the head of the original dombra (құлағы) has survived to this day, and thanks to this important detail it became possible to recreate the instrument as close as possible to its initial form, so this work is not just restoration but also a deep spiritual process that connects generations.
Nurbek Baiganin says:
“The dombra made by my great-grandfather’s hands for his son is a sacred relic not only for our family, but for the whole nation. Even though only its upper part – the құлағы – remained, it became a symbol of memory. Based on this detail, I am trying to bring the dombra back and keep its spirit for future generations.”
The work is being carried out in the university’s creative workshop. Teachers note that this project is a vivid example of how young people understand the value of historical heritage and treat the culture of their ancestors with respect.
