
Training engineering personnel: Vice minister of energy visited the Heriot-watt Kazakhstan campus
Vice Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Sanzhar Zharkeshov, visited the British campus of Heriot-Watt University Kazakhstan, which was opened on the basis of K. Zhubanov Aktobe Regional University.
The Vice Minister got acquainted with the educational process, laboratories, and material and technical facilities of the campus, emphasizing the importance of such international projects in training qualified specialists for the country’s energy and oil and gas industries.
During the visit, Sanzhar Zharkeshov toured the «Oil Engineering» laboratory. The university’s rector, Laura Karabasova, demonstrated the technical equipment. During the tour, the parties discussed opportunities for expanding cooperation, providing sponsorship, and strengthening production partnerships with regional oil and gas companies.
It should be noted that the Heriot-Watt Kazakhstan Campus is a unique educational institution in the western region of the country, training highly qualified specialists in engineering and technical fields. This project was implemented in accordance with the instructions of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Concept for the Development of Higher Education and Science for 2023–2029.
In 2023, Heriot-Watt University — one of the leading technical universities in the UK — opened a campus in Kazakhstan, in the city of Aktobe, for the first time in its history. About 500 students study at the campus in the fields of: «Electric Power Engineering», «Petroleum Engineering» and «Energy Management», and «Computer Engineering». Graduates who successfully complete the educational program receive two diplomas — from Heriot-Watt University and K. Zhubanov Aktobe Regional University.
