Educational Tour to the Aktobe Ferroalloy Plant: A Meeting Point of Knowledge and Experience

For the past three years, students and undergraduates of the educational programs «Management,» «Economics,» and «Business Administration» have been taking part in educational tours to JSC «Aktobe Ferroalloy Plant» under the guidance of Associate Professor, PhD in Economics A. A. Kurmanalina.

After completing safety training and receiving special protective equipment (helmets, radio guides, safety glasses), the participants toured the plant’s territory by bus, visiting the main smelting shops. The entire plant, including workshops, warehouses, and gas cleaning facilities, operates as a single, well-coordinated system. All production processes are automated and continuously monitored by specialists.

The plant’s main products are high-, medium-, and low-carbon ferrochrome with minimal impurities. These ferroalloys are widely used in the production of corrosion-resistant steels — from standard stainless steel to alloy and structural types. Among the company’s strategic partners are leading corporations from China, Japan, South Korea, Europe, the United States, and CIS countries.

During the tour, students and undergraduates learned about the organization of ferroalloy production, the operation of the main and auxiliary workshops, and innovative investment projects aimed at modernizing production — including the construction of a waste-heat power plant, expansion of ore extraction, and environmental and social initiatives.

Participants were also introduced to the company’s employee development programs, corporate culture aligned with global best practices, and continuous improvement of occupational safety, industrial security, and environmental protection standards.

The industrial visit provided students with the opportunity to observe real production infrastructure, including the innovative Workshop No. 4, where they witnessed the process of ferrochrome production. The excursion reinforced their theoretical knowledge in disciplines such as Enterprise Economics, Production Management, Project Management, Human Resource Management, Labor Organization and Remuneration, and Career Management.
For master’s students, the visit also supported their study of Innovation and Investment Management, Business Planning, and Corporate Governance.

The educational tour left a strong impression on both students and faculty members. Special appreciation is expressed to E. A. Golbik, Manager of the ERG Media Center (Astana), for her professionalism, creativity, and effective teamwork.

Gratitude is also extended to the plant’s guides — Zh. T. Tileshev and other specialists — for their professionalism and enthusiasm, as well as to the bus drivers V. Pavlovets, R. Tasymbetov, and their colleagues for their experience and excellent transportation service.

The faculty of the Department of Economics and Management and students highly value the long-standing partnership with JSC «Aktobe Ferroalloy Plant» and look forward to further fruitful cooperation!
