CEO of Yandex Qazaqstan Discusses Technology Trends with Students

IT students from Zhubanov University and the Heriot-Watt University campus in Aktobe took part in a guest lecture featuring the CEO of Yandex Qazaqstan, Timur Shalekenov. During the session, he spoke in detail about current developments in the tech industry, the formation of the digital ecosystem, and the prospects of the IT market in Kazakhstan.

Timur Shalekenov shared the strategic directions of Yandex Qazaqstan’s development, plans to expand its service ecosystem, and ways the company adapts international expertise to meet the needs of the local market. He also spoke about his experience leading BTS Digital and contributing to projects such as the “Social Wallet” (G2C), the Instant Payments System, Kassa24’s electronic services, and tokenization initiatives on the Finnovate platform. The insights provided helped students deepen their practical understanding of fintech and digital product development processes.

During the meeting, he also presented the opportunities offered by Yandex Cloud for science and education. Shalekenov emphasized that Yandex Cloud provides digital resources to all participants in the educational process:

Students – free IT courses in cloud technologies, DevOps, cybersecurity, and other fields to enhance professional skills;

Teachers – ready-made teaching materials and professional development courses to update and integrate new content into the curriculum;

University IT teams – tools to modernize digital infrastructure, strengthen cybersecurity, and build a resilient technological environment;

Research labs – high-performance computing resources that shorten research cycles and accelerate the commercialization of scientific projects.

At the end of the guest lecture, students asked many questions and engaged in an open discussion about digital transformation, emerging IT market trends, and the future of the technology sector. The event became a valuable opportunity for future IT specialists to broaden their professional outlook and strengthen both theoretical and practical knowledge.
