Construction of an International University Building Begins in Aktobe
Construction of a new building for a foreign university has begun in Aktobe. A branch of a leading UK technical university was opened at a regional university two years ago on the instruction of the Head of State. The main academic and laboratory building is now under construction, reports 24KZ.
The Heriot-Watt University campus currently enrolls 518 students. They are school graduates from almost all regions of Kazakhstan, as well as from Russia, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. Students study electrical power engineering, computer engineering, and petroleum engineering. Upon graduation, they will receive a dual degree — a British diploma and a state-recognized Kazakhstani diploma.
Laura Karabasova, Rector of K. Zhubanov Aktobe Regional University:
“What sets our students apart? First of all, we train engineering specialists. These are not just engineers trained according to modern, cutting-edge achievements in science and technology in the engineering field. They also possess a high level of professional, technical English, which is highly valued by our employers.”
The new academic and laboratory building is designed for 1,000 students. Overall, 33 foreign universities are represented in Kazakhstan. Nearly 9,500 people study at these institutions, including about 400 international students. Specialist training is carried out under 162 educational programs. According to experts, the transformation of universities through the creation of strategic partnerships is becoming the foundation for Kazakhstan’s integration into the global educational space.
Gulzat Kobenova, Vice Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan:
“All these foreign universities that have come to Kazakhstan and offer programs specialize in specific fields that are in demand for the country. At the same time, industrial enterprises — our future employers — actively participate in the implementation of these programs. Today, we see that the integration of education, science, and industry is already strengthening.”
Representatives of seven more foreign universities have signed memorandums and are carrying out preparatory work to open branches in cities across Kazakhstan.
