The Results of the Referendum: Academic and Public Perspectives

An Academic Council meeting was held at the University to discuss the results of the referendum and the strategic directions outlined in the new Constitution. The meeting was attended by representatives of the scientific community of the Aktobe region, university faculty, and young researchers.

Rector Laura Karabassova noted that consistent state support for science and education provides broad opportunities to enhance the quality of higher education, strengthen research capacity, and effectively implement innovative projects.

As a result of this support, the University’s research infrastructure has been modernized, and the scope of joint international research has expanded. In 2024, the Center for Academic and Research Excellence in Engineering was established. In addition, the Center for the Development of International Research Competencies, launched in partnership with the University of Minnesota in December 2025, has provided new momentum for the training of research personnel and the development of international research projects.

During the meeting, the academic staff emphasized the importance of the new Basic Law in strengthening social stability, advancing democratic institutions, and ensuring the country’s long-term strategic development.

At the referendum held on March 15, employees of Aktobe Regional University named after K. Zhubanov, along with students aged 18 and above, expressed their civic responsibility and made their choice in support of the country’s future.

In conclusion, the participants noted that the new Constitution is a key document laying the foundation for sustainable national development. They also emphasized that maintaining continuity in state policy in science and education is one of the key factors in enhancing Kazakhstan’s competitiveness.
