British Ambassador Explored the Infrastructure and Academic Programs of the Heriot-Watt Campus

The Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Kazakhstan, Sally Axworthy, visited the university as part of a working trip. During the visit, she became acquainted with the university’s research potential, areas of international academic cooperation, and modern infrastructure. She also met with students to discuss academic mobility opportunities, internships in the United Kingdom, and joint research projects.

Rector Laura Karabassova noted that the educational system of the Heriot-Watt campus fully complies with British higher education standards. She also emphasized that the university remains open to expanding international partnerships and implementing new academic cooperation projects.

Sally Axworthy stated that comprehensive support would continue to be provided in expanding internship opportunities at British industrial enterprises operating in Kazakhstan, taking into account the needs and interests of students.

The Heriot-Watt University campus in Aktobe offers educational programs in Electrical Power Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Petroleum Engineering and Energy Management. Courses are taught by highly qualified faculty members and graduates of international universities from Scotland, Dubai, and Malaysia.

Currently, more than 500 students study at the campus, including students from different regions of Kazakhstan, major republican cities, rural areas, neighboring countries, and other foreign states.

One of the key advantages of the Aktobe campus is the opportunity for students to complete a semester abroad at Heriot-Watt campuses in Dubai, Malaysia, and Edinburgh through the GoGlobal academic mobility program.

In the 2024–2025 academic year, 12 students studied in Malaysia and 4 students studied in Edinburgh. In the first half of the 2025–2026 academic year, the number of students studying in Malaysia increased to 14.

Upon graduation, Heriot-Watt students receive dual diplomas issued both by the British university and the national higher education system, which enhances their competitiveness in the labor market.
