The history of the department is inextricably linked with the history of the formation and development of our university.

The department was among the first to open in 1966 and began to work with the following staff: Dedikova B.V. - Head of the Department, Kononets L.F. - Senior Lecturer of German and Avanesova T.A. - Senior Lecturer of English.
At the beginning of its formation, the department served two faculties: Philology and Mathematics.

Over time, new faculties were opened and for each new faculty, teachers developed appropriate educational materials: they selected texts by specialties; compiled methodological developments for both full-time and, later, for correspondence departments; prepared work programs, etc.

In 1967, the teachers of the department took entrance exams for the newly opened English department, and later for the Philology Department.

In 1976, the German language department was opened at the Faculty of Foreign Languages, and until 1979, the teachers of our department served the students of this department. Then, in 1979, the German language department was organized.

In connection with the increasing number of students, it was decided to open a foreign languages department, whose teachers would conduct classes in non-language faculties. From September 1983 to October 1996, the department was headed by senior teacher Mukhametkhuzina N.F.

From October 1996 to September 2011, the head of the department was senior teacher Nyagu S.V.

From September 2011 to May 2016, the department was headed by senior teacher Musralina A.S.

In May 2016, the department was disbanded. The teachers were sent to the departments of various faculties in order to implement the multilingual education program.

On February 1, 2022, the department was formed again and received a new name - the Department of World Languages. The head of the department was appointed teacher, master Zhumagul D.K.

On September 1, 2023, senior teacher Baizhanova A.A. was appointed head of the department.

The personnel potential of the structural unit consists of 20 senior teachers and teachers.
9 teachers have a master's degree.
