The transfer and recovery of students at the university, including within the same university or from one university to another, is carried out during the winter and summer holidays according to the Academic calendar.
A student can be transferred or reinstated after being expelled if they have fully completed the first academic period. At the same time, students who have academic debts in the courses for transfer cannot move from one university to another or from one program to another.
When transferring or restoring, the academic difference is checked by a faculty commission together with the registrar’s office, based on the list of studied subjects. It should not exceed: for Bachelor’s degree – 24 ECTS credits (except the final year – 0 credits), for Master’s degree – 10 ECTS credits, and for the Heriot-Watt University branch – 30 ECTS credits.
Further study after transfer or restoration depends on the prerequisites.
Students who passed the Unified National Test (UNT) or Comprehensive Testing (CT) and reached at least the required threshold score set by the university may transfer or restore.
For transfer or recovery to the Heriot-Watt University branch, students also need to provide an IELTS certificate (minimum 6.0) proving their English level according to European standards.
Bachelor’s students (first higher education) cannot transfer or restore from foreign universities or from Kazakh universities without a UNT certificate with the correct profile subjects and the required score. Master’s students without a CT certificate also cannot transfer or restore.
Transfer and recovery to the “Pedagogical Sciences” programs requires UNT in History of Kazakhstan, math literacy, reading literacy (language of study), and two specialized subjects, with at least the required threshold score.
Transfer and recovery to the “Law” programs requires UNT with results not lower than the threshold score.
Transfer and recovery of students:
- from one creative program to another program is possible with UNT in the specialized subjects and the required score;
- from a regular program to a creative program is possible if the student passes a creative exam with the required score.
For “B005-Training of Physical Education Teachers” and “B031-Fashion, Interior Design, and Industrial Design,” students must have at least 20 points in total in the UNT for “History of Kazakhstan” and “Reading Literacy.”
Students with educational grants can transfer within the same group of programs while keeping their grant.
They may also transfer to another university and keep their grant.
If the grant was given for a specific university or for teaching specialties within a quota, then transfer to another university is possible only on a paid basis.
