History of the Department
The Department of geography of the Faculty of history in 2018 changed its name to the Department of geography and tourism (03.01.2018). The department trains specialties 6B01506-"geography" ( since 2004 ), 6b11101-"tourism" (since 2010), 6b01511-"geography-history" (since 2017), 7M01506-geography (since 2019).
With the support of Professor M. A. Arynov in 1990, the Aktobe Pedagogical Institute was opened on the basis of the Department of "General History and geography", specialty 030640 "history and geography". In 1995, the first graduates of the specialty 030640 "history and geography" were released.
In 2004, for the first time, in connection with the opening of the specialty" geography", the Department" methods of teaching history and geography " was organized. The head of the department was appointed candidate of Geographical Sciences, Associate Professor G. T. Kubesova.
In 2010, specialties 6b11101-" Tourism", 2017, 6b01511 – "geography-history" were opened. In 2021, the innovative EP 6b05203" landscape design " was opened, and in the 2022-2023 academic year, 25 students were enrolled in training on the basis of a state grant.
Currently, the department employs 4 candidates of Science , 3 PhD, 4 Masters and 1 senior teacher.
The qualitative composition of the teaching staff of the department is 50%. The average age of teaching staff with academic titles is 40 years.
In 2014-2017, candidate of geological and mineralogical Sciences, Associate Professor Zeynulla Eleuovich Bolekbayev worked at the Department.

From June 25 to 29, 2018, the International Youth Festival "Khan koryk" was held in Aktobe region, where teams from 17 universities in Russia, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan took part, with a total of 130 people. During the festival, they visited the natural, historical and cultural heritage of Kobda, Uyl and alga districts.
30.09. -18.10.2018 of the 2018-2019 academic year. German SES expert Gerd Ritthaler gave lectures to students of the specialty Tourism, held seminars and master classes and shared his experience with the teaching staff.
In 2018, a young teacher, Master B. Umirbayev was admitted to the Department.
In the 2017-2018 academic year, under the international academic mobility program, 2nd year students of the specialty "Tourism" A. Albekova, A. Zhalgasova studied at the University of Economics in Bydgoszcz, Poland, and in the 2nd half of 2018-2019, 2nd and 3rd year students of the specialty "Tourism" D. Zholaman, A. Bolatova, A. Markabaeva studied in Kastamonu, Turkey.
In 2020, Master of Geographical Sciences A. G. Abdullina graduated from the doctoral program of ENU named after L. Gumilyov in the specialty 8D01506 – "geography" on the basis of a targeted grant and was re-hired at the Department.
In 2019, a master's degree program was opened in the EP 7M01506 – "geography". In the 2020-2021 academic year, the first undergraduates are trained in this specialty on the basis of a state order.
In 2022, Master of geography M. zh.Umirzakova in the specialty 8D01506 – "geography" named after L. Gumileva. ENU entered the PhD program. In 2022, master of pedagogy, senior teacher Shumakova G. zh., and in 2023-Master's seminar E. Abay on the EP 8d01515 - "geography".Kaznpu, in 2024, senior lecturer Nurgazina A. S. entered the doctoral program at Zhetysu University named after I. Zhansugurov on the EP 8D01515-"geography".
01.09.2021 PhD Askarova G. K. was admitted to the department in the specialty "tourism", in 2022 master of Pedagogical Sciences in the specialty "geography" Hamit A. B., in 2024-2025 academic year PhD Zhakupova A. zh.was admitted to the department in the specialty "geography".
In connection with the organization of the educational process in a remote format during the pandemic, teachers of the department took special IT courses, were certified and are currently taking additional courses
In 2020, teachers of the Department of" geography and tourism "6B11101 –" tourism "took part in a foresight session on the topic" Atlas of new professions and competencies of the tourism industry", organized within the framework of the Atlas of new professions of Kazakhstan.
In addition, from 05.10.2020 to 17.10.2020, the teachers of this EP Aidarova A. Z., Umirzakova M. zh.successfully completed the course on the topic "practical skills of a travel agency manager in Kazakhstan" organized by the Kazakhstan Tourism Association.
On September 20, 2020, the XII Republican student subject Olympiad in the specialty 6b11101 – "tourism" was held within the walls of ENU named after L. N. Gumilyov, organized by the Department of "Tourism" of the Faculty of Economics. According to the results of the Olympiad, the team of the specialty 6b11101 – "Tourism" of our university was awarded the nomination "the most creative project". In 2022, also on the basis of ENU. L. N. Gumilyov passed the XIV Republican student subject Olympiad in the specialty 6b11101 – "tourism", where our students showed high results: in an individual competition (Madi Seilzhanov, Kaizullin Azamat) – 1st and 2nd Place, Project protection-3rd place, 2nd place team competition.
On April 27-28, 2023, Karaganda University named after E. A. Buketov hosted the XV Republican subject Olympiad of students in the specialty "tourism", where our students showed good results and won 3rd place in the team competition.
On December 08, 2023, the Vi international student Olympiad on "techniques and tactics of active tourism" was held at the L. N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, where our students showed good results and took 3rd place in the team competition.
From April 25 to April 26, 2023, on the basis of Pavlodar Pedagogical University named after A. Margulan, the XV Republican student Olympiad on the training of Teachers of the GOP 6B014-geography was held, where our students (Balgabekov Aydin, Baibakov Madiyar) took the 2nd overall team place.
According to the independent agency for accreditation and rating "National rating of Universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan – 2020", the university named after K. Zhubanov, 6B01506 – geography, took the 1st place among the Universities of Kazakhstan.
According to the results of 2022, professor of the Department of geography and tourism, Ph. D. Sergeeva Aigul Maksatovna was awarded the title of "best university teacher" of 2022.
In 2023, professor of the Department of geography and tourism, Ph. D. Sergeeva a.m. and teacher of the Department Khamit A. B. students of the specialty 6B05203 "Landscape Design" took part in the grant project, where "sustainability Living Lab" won a grant in the amount of 1,300,000 with funding from Tengiz Chevron. The goal of the project: to create a recreation area for students, so that the appearance of the campus is good-looking.
