History of the Department of "Oil and Gas Engineering"
The Department of "Oil and Gas Engineering" is one of the leading structural units of the Technical Faculty of Aktobe Regional State University named after K. Zhubanova. Since its establishment, the department has been preparing highly qualified specialists in the oil and gas, energy, chemical, and other related industries.
1996 — Expansion of Educational Programs
In response to the rapid development of the oil and gas sector in the region and the needs of industry, new educational programs focused on preparing specialists for the oil and gas sector were introduced in 1996. These programs became the foundation for the future development of the department, which would later be responsible for training qualified personnel in the field of oil and gas engineering.
2006 — Establishment of the Department of "Oil and Gas Engineering"
In 2006, the Department of "Oil and Gas Engineering" was separated from the Department of "Chemical Technology." From that point, the department began training students under the educational program "6B07202 — Oil and Gas Engineering." The first head of the department was N.N. Aldamzharov, Ph.D., Associate Professor (2006–2007), who made a significant contribution to the formation of the department's methodological and educational base and established connections with industry enterprises.
2007–2010 — Strengthening the Department
The department was headed by Z.E. Dzhakupova, Ph.D., Associate Professor, under whose leadership the department expanded its ties with production organizations, held its first scientific-practical conferences, and updated its educational programs.
2010 — Development of the Master's Program
In 2010, a Master's program "7M07202 — Oil and Gas Engineering" was introduced. The department was headed by A.M. Balginova, Ph.D., Associate Professor (2010–2018). During this period, the department actively developed, and new programs in "Construction" and "Mining Engineering" were introduced. Cooperation with industry enterprises expanded, and modern educational technologies were implemented.
2018–2020 — Strengthening the Scientific Potential
The department was led by R.O. Orynbasar, Ph.D., Associate Professor. Scientific research work developed, and efforts for accrediting educational programs were actively pursued.
Since 2020 — The Current Development Phase
Since 2020, the department has been led by B.G. Almatova, Ph.D., Associate Professor. Under her leadership, the department strengthened its position in engineering education, actively developing new programs and scientific projects, and expanding its material and technical base.
2019 — New Technical Directions
New educational programs were introduced:
- 6B07106 — Electrical Power Engineering
- 7M07106 — Electrical Power Engineering (Master's Program)
These programs responded to the needs of the energy sector enterprises in the region.
2021 — Automation Program
The bachelor's program in "6B07106 — Automation and Control" was launched. The Master's program in "Electrical Power Engineering" continued to develop. The department actively integrates digital technologies into the educational process.
2024–2025 Academic Year — Expanding Scientific and Engineering Directions
The department launched new programs in chemistry and petrochemicals:
- 6B07105 — Chemical Engineering
- 6B07205 — Petrochemical Production Technology
- 7M07102 — Chemical Technology of Organic Substances
These programs open new opportunities for training engineering and scientific personnel to meet the challenges of the time.
2024–2025 Academic Year — Opening of Doctoral Program and Accreditation of Educational Programs
In 2024–2025, the department introduced a doctoral program in "8D05302 — Chemistry and Technology of Modern Materials." This step aims to prepare highly qualified specialists in the field of chemistry and new materials to meet the demands of modern industry and scientific research.
Also, during this period, the educational program "7M07102 — Chemical Technology of Organic Substances" successfully passed specialized accreditation for 5 years. This accreditation was granted by an independent accreditation agency and confirms the program's compliance with international educational standards.
The opening of the doctoral program and successful accreditation of educational programs demonstrate the department's commitment to continuously improving the educational process and preparing students with current knowledge and professional skills that are in demand internationally. These achievements guarantee the quality of education for students, faculty, and employers.
