As part of efforts to enhance educational programs for the 2025–2026 academic year, the Department of Petroleum Engineering organized a round table discussion focused on the following academic programs: 6B07202, 7M07202, 7M07210 – "Petroleum Engineering," 6B07106, 7M07106 – "Electrical Power Engineering," 6B07107 – "Automation and Control," 6B07205 – "Industrial Technology of Petrochemistry," and 7M07102 – "Chemical Technology of Organic Substances."

The event brought together faculty members of the department, education sector specialists, and representatives from leading industrial enterprises, including Munaymash LLP, Caspiyneft JSC, CNPC-Aktobemunaygaz R&D Institute, TanaCom LLP, KEGOK JSC, Energosystema LLP, Aktobe city Section 'ShCh 5,' Kulsary Signal and Communication Distance 'ShCh-11,' Shanyrak-2008 LLP, and TD Foton LLP.

During the discussion, industry professionals provided their insights on further improving modular curricula in line with current industrial requirements, expanding practical training, and integrating advanced modern technologies. Special emphasis was placed on the development of a dual education system, enhancing the quality of students' industrial internships, and strengthening graduates' competitiveness in the labor market.

This round table served as a significant step towards improving the quality of undergraduate and graduate education in petroleum engineering, electrical power engineering, automation and control, industrial petrochemical technology, and chemical technology of organic substances. Additionally, the event contributed to the development of scientific and innovative projects and reinforced collaboration between the academic and industrial sectors.

Aktobe Regional University named after K. Zhubanov considers the development of education in accordance with international standards and strengthening the link between science and industry as one of its key priorities to enhance the professional potential of its graduates. In this regard, the Department of Oil and Gas Engineering systematically attracts specialists with extensive industrial experience to ensure high-quality education in engineering and technical fields. One of the significant steps in this direction was the engagement of a highly qualified specialist, Ömirserik Tayauov, a drilling supervisor at Qatar’s national company QatarEnergy, who has over 22 years of experience in the oil and gas industry.

As a practicing specialist, Ömirserik Tayauov enables students to gain in-depth knowledge of modern technologies and production processes in the oil and gas sector, applying teaching methods that focus on addressing industry-relevant challenges at an advanced level.

Additionally, Lecturer Ö. Tayauov is an active member of the "English Club" at the Department of Oil and Gas Engineering, contributing to the professional development of students as highly sought-after specialists in the global job market. Mastering professional terminology in English, studying international best practices, and working fluently with technical documentation are among the key requirements for a modern engineer.

On October 30, 2024, fourth-year students majoring in "Petrochemical Production Technology," under the guidance of Senior Lecturer R.O. Orynbasar, visited the Aktobe branch of JSC "NATIONAL CENTER FOR EXPERTISE AND CERTIFICATION."

The center's specialists introduced students to modern analysis methods and technical equipment in the field of metrology. Future specialists studied the principles of laboratory equipment operation, calibration methods, and standardization of measuring instruments.

During the educational visit, students discussed current challenges in the petrochemical industry and innovative approaches to solving them, thoroughly examining the operation of modern control panels and measuring instruments. They mastered calibration and standardization principles, and became familiar with data collection and processing methods.

Special attention was paid to the operation of portable diagnostic devices used in field conditions. This equipment enables the assessment of petroleum products quality, analysis of gas composition, and determination of other important physicochemical parameters.
As noted by the center's specialists, modern metrological equipment plays a key role in ensuring product quality and safety in the petrochemical industry. This educational visit contributed to the integration of students' theoretical knowledge with practical experience and enhanced their professional competencies.

Ensuring a harmonious connection between theory and practice in young specialists' training is one of the university's key objectives. Such practical sessions allow our students to gain deeper insights into their future profession and develop as competitive specialists in the labor market.

June 13-22, 2024 The teaching staff of the "Oil and Gas Engineering" Department enhanced their qualifications at the country's leading technical university - Satbayev Kazakh National Research Technical University.

The professional development program included two key areas:

  • "Exploration, drilling, production and development"
  • "Energy"

15 department teachers participated in the courses, including candidates of technical sciences and PhD doctors. The acquired knowledge and competencies will ensure a high level of training for oil and gas industry specialists in accordance with modern production requirements.

The Department of Oil and Gas Engineering actively develops international and domestic academic mobility programs, providing students with unique opportunities for professional and personal growth at leading specialized universities.

Within the framework of the international academic mobility program in the 2023-2024 academic year, Raushan Sokurova, a 2nd-year student majoring in Electrical Power Engineering, successfully completed her studies at Pamukkale University (Pamukkale Üniversitesi, Turkey), one of the recognized centers of engineering education.

Expanding the geography of international cooperation, in the 2024-2025 academic year, A.M. Gatani, a 3rd-year student majoring in Oil and Gas Engineering, is studying at the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (Baku). This university is the flagship of oil and gas education in the Caspian region, opening broad prospects for experience exchange and studying advanced technologies in the oil and gas industry.

As part of the development of internal Kazakhstani academic mobility in the 2023-2024 academic year, D.A. Zheksenov, a student majoring in Automation and Control, successfully completed a semester at the Kazakh University of Transport and Communications named after M. Tynyshpayev. This cooperation contributed to deepening knowledge in the field of industrial process automation and exchange of best educational practices between the country's leading technical universities.
