Key Duties and Responsibilities
The successful applicant, as part of an active teaching team, will be responsible for the following key activities:
● Depending on the position applied for, teach courses with a strong emphasis on …
o … Mathematical foundations of Computer Science such as lambda calculus, syntax of different languages, propositional logic, number arithmetic, etc., …
o … the software development lifecycle, project planning, industry level standards, etc., …
o … or, fundamental concepts of AI such as planning, search, and knowledge representation
● Develop and deliver lectures, tutorials, workshops, and laboratories on subjects related to the positions mentioned above.
● Support undergraduate programs by carrying out assessment and moderation of coursework and examination marking as required.
● Liaise with academic staff at Zhubanov University and Heriot-Watt University, and perform discipline-related administrative tasks.
● Contribute to the development of teaching and scholarship in international higher education learning, with a focus on practical, hands-on experiences for students.
Education, Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- A higher degree (MSc/PhD) in Computer Science, or a closely related field, e.g. Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, from a recognized institution.
- Strong practical experience in theoretical computer science, software engineering, artificial intelligence, or another related and relevant field.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, and a proven ability to work in diverse, international teams.
- Enthusiasm for adapting to new teaching methodologies and curricula, with a focus on practical, hardware-oriented content.
- Demonstrated initiative in teaching and scholarship.
- Versatility, flexibility, and willingness to work collaboratively with colleagues across our international partners.
- Ability to work to deadlines.
Desirable
- A PhD degree in Computer Science or a closely related field, e.g. Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mathematics.
- Experience in web-based learning, e.g. virtual learning environments such as Canvas, and other educational technology
- Experience of developing/delivering innovative assessment practice
- Appropriate academic or industrial experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Machine Learning, and/or Foundational Models of Computer Science.

1. Reservoir Engineering, Reservoir Characterization, Formation Evaluation (including Petrophysics, geosciences and other relevant topics)
2. Drilling Engineering, Production Engineering and energy economics and other relevant topics (wellbore integrity, completion, etc.)
3. Reservoir Engineering, Reservoir Simulation, Gas Reservoir Engineering and other relevant topics
● Develop and deliver lectures, tutorials, workshops, and laboratories on the above subjects.
● Support undergraduate programs by carrying out assessment and moderation of coursework and examination marking as required.
● Liaise with academic staff at Zhubanov University and Heriot-Watt University and perform discipline-related administrative tasks.
● Contribute to the development of teaching and scholarship in international higher education learning, with a focus on practical, hands-on experiences for students.
● Provide academic guidance to students, fostering their professional and research development.
● Engage in university outreach initiatives, and industry collaboration through student engagement activities
● Contribute to the research collaborations between Zhubanov University and Heriot-Watt University.
Education, Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- A higher degree (PhD/MSc) in Petroleum Engineering or other relevant engineering disciplines from a recognized institution.
- Possess breadth and depth of general and specialist knowledge in Reservoir Engineering, Well Engineering, Reservoir Simulation and other relevant disciplines.
- Hands-on experience with relevant Petroleum Engineering software and lab equipment.
- Experience of teaching in English or working in English language companies.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, and a proven ability to work in diverse, international teams.
- Enthusiasm for adapting to new teaching methodologies and curricula
- Demonstrated initiative in teaching and scholarship.
- Versatility, flexibility, and willingness to work collaboratively with colleagues across our international partners.

The role holder will deliver and assess undergraduate students for our Electrical and Electronic Systems BEng (Hons) programme based in Aktobe and engage with the Heriot-Watt University international learning partners. You will be expected to contribute to deliver a number of our courses, undertake coursework and exam, marking and performing administration duties associated with these courses.
The successful applicant, as part of an active teaching team, will be responsible for the following key activities:
- To contribute to the teaching (lectures, tutorials, workshops and laboratories) covering topics in the area of Electrical and Electronic Systems Engineering developed by Heriot-Watt University.
- Supervising undergraduate students on their final year degree projects.
- Supporting undergraduate programmes and other relevant areas by carrying out assessment and moderation of coursework and examination marking as required.
- Liaising with relevant academic staff at Zhubanov University and Heriot-Watt University and carrying out discipline-related administrative tasks as required.
- To contribute to and develop teaching and scholarship in international higher education learning.
