The history of the University

The history of Aktobe Regional State University named after K. Zhubanov in the city of Aktobe begins with the establishment of the MCC of the Kazakh SSR in August 1931 as a two-year teachers’ institute of higher education, in accordance with Order No. 163 of the Commissariat of the Kazakh SSR dated December 13, 1934, and the resolution of the Bureau of the Aktobe Regional Committee of the VKP(b) dated December 13, 1934.

The first director was Nugman Saliev.

In 1935, the first teaching staff of the institute consisted of 12 faculty members: 1 professor, 1 associate professor, and 10 teachers.

The educational activity of the institute began on January 1, 1935 with the opening of two-year programs in history, physics, and mathematics. Instead of the 70 students planned for the first academic year, 81 students were enrolled: 33 at the Faculty of History, 35 at the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics, and 13 at the preparatory faculty.

On April 14, 1945, by the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Kazakh SSR, the institute was renamed after the Honored Worker of Culture of the Kazakh SSR, poet Nurpeis Baiganin.

In 1947, in accordance with the resolution of the Council of Ministers of the USSR of November 16, 1947, “On the development of secondary and higher education in the Kazakh SSR,” a two-year women’s pedagogical institute was opened on the basis of the Aktobe Pedagogical Institute named after N. Baiganin.

The Aktobe State Pedagogical Institute was closed in accordance with the Order of the Council of Ministers of the Kazakh SSR No. 1293-R dated August 4, 1958, and the Order of the Minister of Education of the Kazakh SSR dated August 6, 1958, “On the Aktobe Pedagogical Institute.”

In 1966, by the decree of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kazakhstan and the Council of Ministers of the Kazakh SSR No. 261, the Aktobe Pedagogical Institute was reopened.

The first two faculties enrolled 250 full-time students in physics, mathematics, and philology, and 100 students in physics and mathematics, Russian language and literature, and Russian language and literature in Kazakh schools. Teaching was carried out by 23 faculty members, including 4 Candidates of Sciences and professors.

By the Resolution of the Council of Ministers of the Kazakh SSR dated February 23, 1990 No. 72, the Aktobe Pedagogical Institute was named after the first linguist Kudaibergen Kuanyshuly Zhubanov.

The Aktobe Pedagogical Institute named after K. Zhubanov was transformed into Aktobe University named after K. Zhubanov by the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated May 7, 1996 No. 573.

By the decree of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated January 31, 2001 No. 163, Aktobe University named after K. Zhubanov was granted state status.

Aktobe State University named after K. Zhubanov was reorganized in accordance with the Decree of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 128 dated February 3, 2004, in connection with the division of the Aktobe State Pedagogical Institute.

By the Resolution of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated May 29, 2013 No. 529, Aktobe State University named after K. Zhubanov and Aktobe State Pedagogical Institute were combined and transformed into Aktobe Regional State University named after K. Zhubanov.

By the Resolution of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 752 dated October 11, 2019, the Republican State Enterprise on the right of economic management “K. Zhubanov Aktobe State University” was reorganized into the Non-Profit Joint Stock Company “K. Zhubanov Aktobe Regional University.”
