OUR CONTRIBUTION TO THE SDGs
SDG 15: LIFE ON LAND
Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss
The University actively contributes to SDG 15: Life on Land through campus greening, environmental stewardship, and biodiversity-related initiatives.
The campus includes extensive green areas covering approximately 13 hectares. In 2020, the University established a greenhouse to support sustainable landscaping and environmental education. The greenhouse is primarily used for internal purposes, including growing flowers and plants for campus improvement, as well as various types of greenery. It also serves as a practical learning facility for students of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, supporting hands-on environmental education and awareness.
The University regularly implements environmental initiatives aimed at improving local ecosystems and promoting ecological culture. As part of the national environmental campaign “Taza Kazakhstan,” students, faculty, and staff participate in clean-up activities and campus improvement efforts. Special attention is given to tree planting, with more than 500 trees planted annually, contributing to increased green coverage and biodiversity on campus.
In addition, the University organizes over 15 environmental events and activities each month, engaging the academic community in sustainability practices and raising awareness of environmental protection. These initiatives are documented and publicly shared, promoting transparency and encouraging wider participation.
Through these efforts, the University supports environmental sustainability, enhances biodiversity, and fosters a culture of responsible interaction with the natural environment.
